Confidence Isn’t Clear-Cut
Cultivate the art of being comfortable with uncertainty…
Confidence: ‘The art of being comfortable with uncertainty’.
Sounds oxymoronic, right? Confidence is acting strong and making a choice, surely.
😬 It's commonly seen as the inherent bravery to step up or keep going - to know what should happen, 'grit your teeth' and push on.
⛔️ Or else it's viewed as the determined power to let go: such as resolving to 'give up' stuff that doesn't serve us. Sugar, for instance. Toxic relationships. Saying "Sorry but can I just say..." in every meeting.
🌱 New Year's Resolutions can be a bit black-and-white in that respect. We can get hooked on a definition of 'confidence' meaning certainty.
🪂 Maybe - next time - try sitting in the space in between doing and not doing. Ask yourself (especially if you're not sure of the answer), "What will happen if I wait and see?” No choice is still a choice, after all. It's okay to decide not to decide.
✋ Parking a decision while you deliberately and actively entertaining every possibility is, arguably, a baller move. Then, when you know, you'll know. Bingo. And your confidence is entact.
And yes, we understand that this means having to embrace ‘failing forwards’ - the freedom to fail is at the very heart of confidence, after all!
Good luck and get in touch if you’d like to increase your personal or your teams’ confidence.
